I’m Darlene. I aim to hit a Venn diagram target centering on archaeology, romance, and science fiction. My goal in life is to write 100 epic books that change the lives of my readers. My favorite color is Capri blue and I drink coffee with sugar and soy.
Want more? I work best with two hats:
- writer [fiction and freelance] (green Fedora)
- teacher (cowgirl hat)
I completed my Master of Fine Arts in creative writing at Goddard College. My thesis was The Divantinum Project, a science fiction story set in a futuristic Earth with three spaceships, sixteen species, and six hundred and seventy-four characters. The simple question “do aliens exist?” brought me to my current work in progress: a science fiction series about a half-alien/half-goddess orphan who grew up on Earth. Gaea is keeping me busy!
My hands-on anthropology and writing experience can help writers find inspiration and purpose. My love of adventure and well-traveled boots help readers find new best friends! I’m a humble writer who dreams of living on the bookshelf between Reichs and Riley.
Best wishes for all, may you work hard, play hard, and read hard to make your writing dreams come true!
Let me know which hat you need me to wear! How can I best help you?

My professional goals are to finish and publish my tenth novel, The Divantinum Project, to teach creative writing for adults, sell the 8,000+ articles, essays, and stories that haunt my computer, and write 100 books in the next forty years. Sounds like a literary life of adventure! If you’re interested, check out The 100 Books Project.
My ultimate goal is to create the Reilley Writer’s Retreat, a sanctuary for creativity and a place where all writers thrive with unique workshops and an inspiring atmosphere.
I am a prolific writer who has tons of ideas and follows through with action. You can see the highlights on my Publication List.
