Exploring Creativity with DarWrites: Discover, Author, and Roam

Your Weekly Dose of Inspiration for Readers and Writers

Greetings, intrepid voyagers of the cosmos!

I’m rejiggering my blog and website into a creative haven. We’re diving into the world of creativity from three unique angles: Discover, Author, and Roam. Let’s embark on this journey of imagination and craft together.

Discover: Books and Media

Literary Treasures:

Our first stop is in the realm of books. I’m reading “Limitless” by Jim Kwik. This book focuses on improving learning, memory and cognitive abilities. So far, the book emphasizes the importance of having a growth mentality and believing you can learn and improve. By learning how our thoughts and beliefs impact our ability to learn, we can use an open attitude and reach better outcomes.

Cinematic Inspirations:

Taking the idea of “Limitless” one step further, I’m excited to share a method that helps me think – I’ve sketched my whole life, but this video takes it a step further. Watch Getting Started With Sketchnotes. Check out the artistry that unfolds on the screen and let the storytelling spark your imagination.

Tips for Writing:

Unleash Your Inner Wordsmith: As authors, we’re constantly honing our craft. Here’s a tip to help unleash your inner wordsmith: channel your creative energy and translate it into words by harnessing the power of morning pages. I’m back at the creative place where I’m writing morning pages every day and Julia Cameron’s fantastic idea will help you have the confidence and the power to ignite words.

Crafting Authentic Characters: I’m sure you’re aware that I’m giving a workshop called Discovering Outlander this month. While revisiting one of my favorite novels, I’m reminded that creating relatable  characters is an art. Looking at your favorite character like Claire will help you craft lifelike protagonists and antagonists. Crafting multidimensional characters enriches your narrative. It also invites your readers to forge deeper connections with your characters.

Roam

Explore Your Creative Landscape:

As writers, we often find inspiration in unexpected places. This weekend, embrace a playful roaming adventure. Wander through a local park, bustling market, or serene garden. Observe the world around you and let your imagination run wild. Jot down snippets of dialogue, descriptions, or even character ideas from your sparks of interest. The act of roaming can infuse fresh perspectives into your writing, transforming the ordinary into the extraordinary.

As artists we read, write and play. As you venture into these realms, remember that the pages you read, the words you write, and the places you roam fuel your writer journey. Pay attention to what you intake.

Stay tuned for more literary explorations next week. Until then, keep creating and embracing the magic within.

With boundless anticipation,

Darlene
